Hand-building

Short creative session, no experience needed.

A fun, creative session where you make something with your own hands – whether that's a porridge bowl, a good-luck cat sculpture, a vase, a spoon rest, or something entirely else that your home is dreaming of. It's a nicely grounding yet utterly practical experience.

With birthdays, housewarmings and Christmas always on the horizon, why not make precious gifts yourself this time?

The pottery wheel is a fast-spinning, slightly humbling, deeply satisfying machine. You'll make cups, bowls, plates, vases — or something in between. This workshop is designed for complete beginners and first-timers, delivering equal parts meditation and adrenaline. Each participant gets to keep 2–3 of their finished pieces, which will be fired and glazed.

2.5 hours We recommend arriving a few minutes early.

PRICING

Introducing

Cup painting

Pick up a brush, release your inner artist.

This will definitely bring out your inner artist. From abstract to highly detailed, everything will look beautiful. For those who aren't into painting – you can simply write your name, a poem, or a little message on the side of a cup. Whatever the brush brings!

You'll paint a cup that's been made by hand – all the cups are a similar shape, but not the identical, as is the nature of the handmade.

This workshop is suitable for all ages and skill levels, including young ceramic enthusiasts.

Can be arranged as a fun and memorable pop-up workshop in your location.

Planning something special? Let's talk.

Got your friend's baby shower, sister's hen party, uncle's birthday, a team that definitely needs some outside air and creative release, or just a bunch of friends who want to lose themselves in clay on a Friday? Great. ADO STUDIO is happy to plan a custom workshop around your group, your vibe, and your venue – hand-building, cup painting, or wheel-throwing.

We also run pop-up workshops at events, launches and celebrations. Think wedding favours that guests can paint themselves, 'sip-and-clay' evenings or creative activations that people will actually remember. If you have an idea, bring it!

Frequently asked questions

What's the cancellation and refund policy?

If your numbers change, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. With 24+ hours notice, we can refund 50% for any absent participants. After that, unfortunately we can't offer a refund.

Do I need to come back a second time to glaze?

Not necessarily. We use pre-firing engobes that can be applied during the workshop itself – no second visit needed. We'll add a transparent glaze after firing at no extra cost. If you'd prefer a glaze finish, you can either choose a glaze and we'll handle it (+15€) or come back to glaze yourself (+35€). Glaze and colour samples are available at the studio.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Absolutely– tea and biscuits are provided by the studio, but you're very welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks for a celebration. If you're bringing more than finger food or have more than four people, please book an extra hour so the eating and clinking doesn't eat into your making time. We have glasses, a few plates, snack bowls, and cutlery – anything else, feel free to bring along.

Are weekend and evening workshops available?

Yes! A small surcharge of 8€ per person applies for workshops starting after 19:00 or on weekends.

Can we come as a group of two or three, even though the minimum is four?

Of course, private sessions are very welcome. Minimum fees apply:

Hand-building: 75€ solo · 125€ for two · 155€ for three
Cup painting: 75€ solo · 110€ for two · 140€ for three

Do I need to be an artist to paint a cup?

Absolutely not. Write your name, make dots, paint a wonky sun – abstract is always welcome. Honestly, some of the best cups come from children, who don't overthink it and just go for it. There's a lesson in that for all of us.

Does the cup painting cup have a handle?

No, the cups are made the evening before and haven't been fired yet, which makes them quite fragile. A handle would make them even more delicate and also get in the way of painting. Think of it as less stress, more room and also a classical design choice.

What colours are available for painting?

We use engobes – pigment-mixed colours that you won't find anywhere else quite like this. Around 40 tones to choose from

What should I wear? Wheel-throwing specific: anything to know?

Aprons are provided at the studio, but wear something that can get a little clayey anyway – just in case. The wheel sits between your legs, so skirts aren't ideal and heels make the pedal tricky. Comfortable, casual clothes are your best bet.

Can I buy a gift card?

Yes! Gift cards are available both from the online shop and in person at the studio.

A note on the process
ADO STUDIO workshops are experience-based. I'll do my best to guide everyone to a great result and minimise any risks, but ceramics has a mind of its own – pieces can crack during drying, break in the kiln, or glaze in unexpected ways. This is a completely natural part of working with clay, and honestly part of what makes it interesting. Every piece is unique, and results vary depending on technique, material, and the maker's hand. Photos on the website and social media are for inspiration, not an exact promise.

The studio has zero tolerance for rude or hostile behaviour. Racist, homophobic, or otherwise offensive conduct will result in removal from the workshop.
